Any Tips for Conceiving a Girl?

I get emailed regularly asking for tips for conceiving a girl from parents or prospective parents who, for one reason or another, want to choose the gender of their next child. This might seem strange to many people whose only concern is having a healthy baby, but there are some genuine reasons why some people have a preference about the sex of their baby.

1. Cultural Reasons – as strange as it might seem to us in the developed World, there are some places in the world where one gender is held in higher esteem than the other. In certain parts of Asia for instance, having a boy baby is seen by many parents as a blessing, so information about how to have a girl baby is often used to facilitate the opposite happening, having a boy baby. Also, in parts of China where the one child policy is still enforced, choosing the sex of your baby is highly prized.

2. Already Have Children – a friend of ours who already has 3 boys was desperate to conceive a girl for her fourth and final child. Her view was that she already shared her world with four males (her husband and 3 boys), so she wanted to find out how to conceive a girl so that she could redress the balance a little in their household. When you hear stories like this, it makes it easier to understand why people want to make these choices in the first place.

3. Medical Reasons – for some people having a child of a particular gender presents them with all kinds of potential problems. There are some medical conditions that are more gender specific if they are passed on to the next generation – for these people, choosing to have a girl baby or a boy child makes perfect sense to avoid future problems or complications.

When you look at the subject in this way, it can make perfect sense to try to stack the odds in your favour. While there is no way to guarantee that the tips for conceiving a girl will work, there are programs available that claim to offer a 95% success rate in this area. That might not be perfect, but it is a much better strike rate that medical intervention.
