Choosing Handmade Baby Blankets

Handmade baby blankets are one item that can be given to friends and relatives for such occasions as baby showers or birthday parties or holidays. The gift of a handmade blanket is a gift that the receiver is going to cherish for many years to come. They may choose to either use the blanket or they may choose to put the gift away in a keepsake box to hold on to many years down the road.

Handmade blankets are available in a number of patterns which allows the receiver to have a handmade gift that is exactly how they want it. They can tell the person who is purchasing the gift what they want to decorate their nursery in and have a gift actually purchased with the exact theme that they plan on having their nursery decorated in.

Whether you are purchasing a handmade baby blanket as a gift or you are purchasing the blanket for yourself, the baby will be sure to love the feel of the blanket against their skin. There are microfiber handmade baby blankets as well as chenille baby blankets that can be purchased. A personalized quilt makes a great gift as well. All of these blankets come in a number of different sizes which makes it nice when looking to decorate or when looking for a blanket that will simply be used to cover the baby up when out.

When shopping around for the blanket, you can also see about purchasing the other items that can be purchased that are made by hand. Some other items that can be purchased to match might include pillows or bumper pads that will match the whole nursery. The baby blanket is just going to be a starting point for someone who is looking to start purchasing items for their nursery.

Depending on where you live will depend on the exact thickness that you will be wanting from the blanket that you are purchasing. If you live in an area that is warmer for longer periods of the year, then you will want to purchase a blanket that is thinner than you would if you lived in the cooler parts.

Why the Fuss Over Organic Baby Clothing?

Recently society as a whole seems to be pushing for more organic solutions to our everyday needs. Organic foods perhaps started the trend and this trend is now moving into the clothing industry. You might be surprised what you can find organic these days. This article takes a look at an emerging trend in the baby clothing category; people are starting to choose organic.

At this point you may be wondering why anyone would care whether or not their baby is wearing organic or non-organic clothes. The newer generation believes strongly in maintaining the earth’s sustainability and making it a better place to live. Whether this is due to Disney shows or the classroom is hard to determine, but it is clear that being environmentally friendly is deeply ingrained the rising generation. This caution for the environment has led many to try and find any way possible to help; and organic baby clothing does appear to be better for the environment.

Some of the more common baby items that are organic include baby onesies (also known as one-pieces), t-shirts, pants, dresses, and hats. For the most part these items are just as durable as their non-organic partners, but they provide the added benefit of leaving a small “footprint” on the environment.

Another often claimed advantage of organic clothing is that it causes less irritation on babies’ skin. It is true that babies’ skin is highly sensitive and babies are prone to rash up easily. Whether or not organic clothing actually helps this is hard to determine, but some people swear by it.

Perhaps one disadvantage of buying organic clothes for your baby is the expense. If you’ve ever stopped by the organic aisle in the supermarket, you’ll notice that prices are a bit above what you would normally pay. This same holds true when dealing with baby clothing. At the end of the day you have to decide if paying a few more bucks is worth helping the environment and perhaps saving your baby some irritation.

Whether or not organic baby clothes will really help the world in the long run is a subject for debate, but one can’t deny the current trend that people are indeed buying more of this type of clothing. For more discussion on babies please visit this baby clothing blog.

Taking Early Pregnancy Tests

Are you experiencing some of the early signs of pregnancy and wondering if you really are pregnant? Some women won’t notice the signs of pregnancy before their missed period, and some women experience several early signs. Either way, you may wish to test for pregnancy a little early. But how early is too early?

Is it too early for you to test? Early in pregnancy, a woman’s body produces the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is present in small amounts when the fertilized egg is implanted to the uterus but increases rapidly after that.

Pregnancy tests work by detecting hCG in the urine. Because hCG increases over time, these tests are more accurate the longer you wait to test. However, many women want to test early.

Some pregnancy tests say that you can test up to four days before your period. Other tests claim that their tests work on the first day of a missed period. But either way, your results won’t be as accurate this early in pregnancy. Even though most pregnancy tests claim 99% accuracy, this claim isn’t valid if you test early. The first day of your missed period is still early if you wish to take a pregnancy test.

Even though you may not get completely accurate results if you test early, many women choose to do so. If you do take a pregnancy test early, you will probably want to retest in a week or two, especially if your results were negative, in order to make sure your results are valid.

It can be difficult to wait to take a pregnancy test, especially if you feel that you are experiencing early signs of pregnancy. Take an early pregnancy test if you need to, but make sure to retest later. Early testing is just not accurate enough to rely on.
