3 Reasons to Breastfeed Your Baby
Feeding your new baby breast milk is a choice a new mother has to make one way or another. It can be a great way to make sure your baby gets the best nutrition possible. But as you know, there may be many reasons to breastfeed, and there may be some the suggest you don’t. A good breast pump will be essential if you decide to breastfeed.
Here are 3 good reasons to consider it.
Your own milk is God’s designed food for a baby.
The mother has a concoction of antibodies, proteins, and carbohydrates in her milk that are unique to her, and essential for the baby. Instant baby formulas can never duplicate these nutrients in the same quality or proportion. In fact quite a few of the antibodies that are found in the mother’s milk are specialized for the environment that she lives in and the family genetics. It is also important to realize that babies can digest mother’s milk easier than store bought substitutes. Often the infant formulas you buy are based on Cow’s milk, and this may not be very digestible to certain babies.
Breast milk protects babies from disease.
A newborn gets immunities that they can’t get anywhere else from breast milk. Childhood illnesses and certain diseases are eliminated or severely reduced by the immunities found in the milk. Common diseases that are thought to be reduced or eliminated are diabetes, asthma, and Crohn’s Disease.
Breastfeeding really bonds the mom and baby.
Breastfeeding multiples the bond that mothers and babies have. There have been data to show that the mom’s hormones actually change if she breastfeeds. Such a benefit arises as a hormone “prolactin” gets released during breast feeding, and this tends to calm then mother. It is the physical changes, closeness, and the physiological changes that create this bond that lasts a lifetime.
It often comes down to the circumstances and whether your job situation allows it. If you can do it, it is really worthwhile. It helps a lot if you get a good electric breast pump to help when you can’t actually be there in person for your baby.
