Picking Out A Baby Shower Cake Pan

In all of my time baking and going to parties that other people have baked for I’ve seen some very strange cakes. This problem seems to be concentrated with baby showers. I’m not totally sure why this is, but I’ve narrowed it down to the fact that there isn’t a recognizable symbol for a baby shower, like a Jack-o-lantern or a Christmas tree. In this post I want to show you first what not to do, and second what to do to bake a perfect baby shower cake.

First off, please do not bake a baby shaped cake for a baby shower! There aren’t a lot of things creepier than eating the biscuit that’s in the basket! I’ve been at a baby shower that had an extremely realistic cake that looked exactly like a newborn baby. It was too weird and no one ate any of the cake. Also, don’t get the edible picture of the sonogram to put on the top of the cake, that’s weird too.

Another thing to watch out for is baking a cake that suits the gender of the baby. The gender of the baby is totally irrelevant to the party, so there’s no need for a G.I. Joe or Transformer cake! You might laugh, but I’ve seen it!

So what should you do? Keep it neutral. This is one situation where it’s important that the cake taste really good so spend your time getting recipe right instead of designing a wacky cake. Baby shower cake pans could be a lady bug, a baby carriage, a butterfly, a stork, or anything generic that isn’t weird. Keep it simple and your cake will be a much larger success.

Shopping for cake pans is easy as well. My favorite site to by pans from is www.shapedcakepans.net. They find the best prices from Amazon and eBay so you can compare them and determine which is the lowest. Cake pans are hard to come by now in stores, so it’s almost mandatory that you buy them online.
