Do I Need to Buy Maternity Bras?

Maternity bras are considered a necessity by many pregnant mothers. Some people just want to buy a plus size bra instead of the specialty bras, but I encourage you to research the benefits of the maternity bra.

Maternity wear is designed to accommodate the special needs of expectant mothers. It is important to have proper support and comfort. Your ribcage is expanding and your breasts are growing and becoming more sensitive. Maternity underwear is designed to accommodate these concerns. A large bra just will not provide the maternity support needed during pregnancy.

There is a large variety of maternity apparel available, from maternity panties to maternity tops. Some of them may just be for fashion, but maternity bras really do have other benefits besides fashion! If your breasts are not supported properly, then you are at higher risk of stretch marks and even more back pain than you already have. Regular bras are just not designed to give that kind of support.

Maternity bras and nursing bras provide the same type of support and comfort. The only difference is that nursing bras will accommodate breast feeding and maternity bras will not. If you plan on breast feeding your baby, you may as well purchase a maternity nursing bra, instead of just a maternity bra.

A lot of people actually wear maternity/nursing bras to bed. Again, this is to maintain the support needed to prevent stretch marks and back pain. Some women actually use the sleep nursing bras as a nursing sports bra! However, since it is designed to be comfortable enough for sleep, I would only recommend it for low impact exercise!
